THE ARTIST

Born in 1972 in Shizuoka, Japan, Keiichiro Muramatsu is a photographic artist known for works exploring the dialogue between arranged flowers, light, and the space they inhabit. A graduate of the University of Science and Technology, he initially worked at a patent office before devoting himself fully to photography. Self-taught at first and inspired by Robert Frank and Henri Cartier-Bresson, his early experiments combined multiple exposures of urban and natural scenes, evoking the sense of a wanderer drifting through overlapping spaces and times.
In 2001, he studied at Focal Point Photography School in Vancouver, Canada, where he mastered diverse techniques and was deeply influenced by Harry Callahan’s minimalist expression and use of multiple exposures. After returning to Japan, he founded The Fourth Avenue Studio in Hamamatsu in 2008, focusing primarily on portrait photography.
In 2013, Muramatsu began practicing Nageire—a freeform style of ikebana—and incorporated its sensibility into his photographic work, marking the renewal of his artistic practice. From 2014 to 2024, he explored the tension and harmony between natural elements such as flowers and artificial materials. His current work extends this dialogue toward the themes of space, silence, and time, merging traditional Japanese aesthetics with contemporary visual expression.
His photographs are held in private and corporate collections in the United Kingdom, France, the United States, and other countries worldwide.
